Today, our world strives on negativity. It can be found in our politics, in our communities, and in our homes. This powerful state of mind is like a drug-- it will significantly hurt your life the more you invest in it. Prince Ea once said, "A thought is like a cloud-- it comes an it goes but it says and it grows if you give it the power too." To often, the thoughts we grow in our head are negative ones, and its these thoughts are what have the biggest impact on our lives.
Something that I have witnessed day in and day out at school is how quickly these negative thoughts spread. There are people who are addicted to this drug of negativity; they are constantly in search of something they can argue about. A simple remark about a recent political action springs into an argument, which springs into a personal, insult hurling yelling match. I am astonished about how the way some people live their lives. I cant imagine living my life in constant search for an argument. Its so much more than "expressing" self-opinion-- it's forcing negativity onto people that don't know how to take it. The same people who are complaining about the divide in our country are continuing to grow it. Our perspective and outlook on the world is backwards. Instead of focusing on what people should be doing, focus on what you can be doing.
The best way that I have found to go about the issues of negativity is to remember that God always wins. No matter the argument, no matter the issue, no matter the person, God is always in charge. Negativity to me is just a way of distracting us from the good that is happening. God brings us together, just trust in Him! Our culture moves from one issue to the next without ever seeing the end of it. As soon as the negativity starts to end on one issue, we jump right on to the next story. Its so easy to jump on this negativity train, but its the opposite of what we are created to do. Instead of being apart of the negativity train, lets create some kind of positive change! Lets be the generation that gets stuff done, instead of getting stuck in the cycle of political agendas. God wants us to break free from this negative cycle! We can't get caught up in silly arguments that don't do anything. We must be apart of something big. Something that God wants us to do. In order to bring our communities together, we must simply understand that God is the ruler over everything; our negative remarks and arguments get nothing done! It doesn't matter what side of the political spectrum your find yourself on. It doesn't matter how rich or poor you are. It doesn't matter how well your educated. God rules over all of us, and we must put our faith in Him instead of keeping our attention on the negativity cycle that sucks us in and takes our lives. And if He rules over all of us, then put the ego aside and help someone today. One person is not better than the next.
